A Chorographical Description of the County of WestMeath signed presenation

Published from the MSS. by Major Charles Vallancey of the Antiquarian Hibernian Society and printed by Thomas Ewing, Dublin in 1770 this book was originally written by Henry Piers in 1682 and is the definitive early history of the county. This copy has a handwritten inscription by George Nugent - Temple Grenville, 1st. Marquess of Buckingham who was the lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1787 until 1789. He was instrumental in the enactment of the Renunciation Act of 1783 which supplemented the legislative independence of Ireland. He also founded the Order of St. Patrick which was for Chilalry and which the current Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is the sovereign of the order. This is the rare 1st edition bound in leather with gilt decorations and raised bands on the spine. The binding has been professionally repaired with marbled endpapers and the bookplate of John Clendining MD. Loosely tipped in is the original map of the county. This copy is in very good clean condition.
