Ireland; its Scenery, Character, & C. Volumes 2 and 3 of a 3 volume set.
Mr. & Mrs. S. C. Hall.
For sale here are volumes 2 and 3 of a three volume set of Hall's Ireland. The Hall's travelled around Ireland in the first half of the nineteenth century recording their impressions of the people and places they encountered and the history and folklore of the island. They managed to capture the character and atmosphere of pre-famine Ireland in a way few other writers did. This Ireland would soon vanish for ever.
The two volumes are uniformly bound in full green leather, with gilt titles, trim and page edges. Spines are divided into six sections by five raised bands. Title and volume are in second and third sections, the others having a gilt decoration. The endpapers are marbled.
The two volumes are in very good condition. Vol. 2 has 468 pages and Vol. 3 has 512 pages including index with a small portion missing from the bottom part of the last page.
Published by Jeremiah How, Picadilly, London 1846.
The books are arranged by County with full page county maps, innumerable in text illustrations and full page engraved scenes. Counties included in Vol. 2 are Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, Wicklow, Kildare, Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Louth, Armagh. Counties included in Vol. 3 are Down, Monaghan, Antrim, Fermanagh, Derry, Donegal, Longford, Leitrim, Sligo, Longford, Mayo, Clare and Galway. This is a very good pair of volumes of this popular work.
